The Y2K Help Center for Small Business began operations on February 23, 1999. The 1-800 number is available to anyone nationwide. The Help Center will answer questions and provide assistance to small and medium size manufacturers, other small businesses and farms, as well as to Manufacturing Extension Partnership Centers, Extension, US Small Business Administration (SBA), and Small Business Development Center (SBDC) service providers. The Y2K Help Center is staffed by analysts trained to provide Y2K service delivery and project implementation assistance in the following three areas:
  • Y2K Self Help-Tool Support: Help Center analysts will provide technical assistance on the proper installation and use of the Y2K Self-Help Tool. The Y2K Self-Help Tool is available for downloading from the Y2K Help Center web site at http://y2khelp.nist.gov
  • Sources Of Y2K Compliance Information: Help Center analysts will provide links to Y2K product compliance information. This information will include equipment manufacturers’ and vendors’ web sites, telephone numbers, and databases that contain product Y2K compliance information.
  • Conversion 2000: Y2K Workshop Series: Help Center analysts will provide MEP Centers, USDA Cooperative Extension Offices, US Small Business Administration, and Small Business Development Centers with assistance relating to Conversion 2000: Y2K workshop materials. Workshop series materials include the Action Planning, Assessment, Computer Systems, Embedded Systems, and Contingency Planning seminars.

The hours of operation for the Center are from 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. Eastern Time, Monday through Friday.

There is a Y2K Jumpstart Kit that is also available that contains a Y2K Self-Help Tool along with supporting documentation. The Jumpstart Kit is available for downloading from the Y2K Help Center web site.
